Airport context for Toronto, Canada

Lester B. Pearson International Airport (YYZ)

  • Catalog locality: Toronto
  • Country code: CA
  • ICAO code: CYYZ
  • Time zone: America/Toronto
  • Airport elevation: 569 ft
  • Airport reference coordinates: 43.6772, -79.6306

This selected gateway is an airport reference point, not the city center or a list of every airport serving the city. The time-zone identifier describes local clock rules; check the date when comparing departure and arrival times. Reference metadata comes from the PocketWorld airport catalog, not a current flight board.

Using the local map

The map link uses the selected YYZ gateway coordinates. Nearby aircraft are not necessarily departing from or arriving at Toronto: a position alone cannot establish the route. Select a marker and inspect its origin, destination and observation time when available. The city guide does not publish a live flight total.

Weather observations and public aircraft reports have separate sources and update times. Open the relevant map layer to see current availability; a missing observation is not evidence of clear weather or of no air traffic. For travel decisions, verify schedules and disruption notices with the airline or airport.

Pearson or Billy Bishop: two different Toronto airport journeys

Check YYZ or YTZ on the itinerary before using a Toronto city search to plan the next step. The City of Toronto's visitor transport guide identifies Pearson and Billy Bishop as separate arrival points with different ground connections. This PocketWorld profile uses Pearson as its reference gateway. Its map button does not open downtown Toronto or automatically switch to Billy Bishop.

Union Station is a city connection, not one shared airport terminal

Pearson's official guide locates the UP Express station at Terminal 1 and directs Terminal 3 passengers to the Terminal Link connection. Check that terminal step when comparing a train journey with the time you need to reach an airline desk. The published rail journey alone does not include every part of leaving an aircraft, moving through the airport and continuing from Union Station to a final address.

Billy Bishop's shuttle information describes a mainland pickup by the passenger tunnel access building and a downtown stop across from Union Station. The city's visitor guide separately explains access to the island airport by tunnel or ferry. These are different steps from Pearson's terminal and rail connection. Check the operator's current stops and service information rather than assuming the same instructions work at both airports.

For a journey involving both airports, read Billy Bishop's inter-airport transport FAQ and build the ground connection from current operator information. Sharing the Toronto name does not make YYZ and YTZ interchangeable, and a map's straight-line separation is not a transfer-time estimate. This reference does not promise a through connection, a fixed fare or an operating timetable.

Separate airport identity from public aircraft coverage

The map is not a complete flight schedule for either Toronto airport. A nearby position may have no confirmed destination, and an observation around Billy Bishop cannot be counted as a Pearson arrival simply because both are in the Toronto area. Compare the airport code, reported route and timestamp; verify an individual journey with the airline. Weather observations have their own source and time, separate from the aircraft position.

Using the live map for Toronto

This city page centers PocketWorld near Toronto, Canada, using the reference coordinates 43.6777, -79.6248. The YYZ code identifies the main aviation gateway used by this page; a metropolitan area can have additional airports, and the selected point does not describe every district or terminal.

Available aircraft positions come from public ADS-B observations and may not include every flight. Callsigns, airport pairs and aircraft details can be missing or delayed. Weather and disaster layers use their own providers and update schedules, so each timestamp should be read separately rather than treated as one synchronized city report.

Use the map for geographic context and exploration. Confirm gates, schedules and cancellations with the airline or airport, forecasts with the responsible weather service, and emergency information with local authorities.

Aviation data sources

Live positions are aggregated from OpenSky Network and community ADS-B providers. Coverage, update intervals and route metadata vary by aircraft and region.
